Preventive Maintenance of HT Motors

By: admin

Preventive maintenance of HT (High Tension) motors refers to a scheduled routine of inspections, cleaning, and necessary repairs performed on high voltage electric motors to identify potential issues and prevent unexpected breakdowns, typically including checking cooling fans, bearing lubrication, electrical connections, insulation resistance, and overall motor condition at regular intervals to ensure optimal performance and lifespan.

Checkpoints in Preventive Maintenance of HT Motors

  1. Motor Terminal Box
    • Check the terminal studs and terminal connectors for damage to threads or overheating.
    • Clean the bushing and check for any cracks in it. replace the bushing.
    • Check for any sign of moisture. If found wipe it with a clean and dry cloth. Look for possible moisture seepage points and take corrective actions.
    • Check the connection, condition and tightness of cables and winding leads.
  2. Cooling Heat Exchanger
    • Check for any sign of corrosions and take corrective actions.
    • Check for any obstructions coming in air flow of heat exchanger and clean if required.
  3. Motor Space heaters
    • Check physically for any damage or rusting to the connections
    • Check tightness of terminal connections.
    • To ensure working of space heater measure current in cable.
  4. Check if earthing conductor is connected to body or not.
  5. Check IR vale of Motor with Insulation tester and record values for future references.
  6. Ensuring proper alignment between the motor and the driven equipment to minimize stress on the motor shaft.
  7. If required, check for bearing lubrication oil levels in tanks and top-up if required as per OEM recommendations.

Safety Protocols

Always follow proper safety protocols when working on high voltage equipment, including de-energizing the circuit and ensuring all static energy is dissipated and only trained technicians should perform maintenance on HT motors due to the potential electrical hazards.

Above check points related to Preventive Maintenance of HT Motors are general in nature and their frequencies are taken in consult with OEM`s and site ambient conditions.
